Does What It Says July 12, 2010 Deacon (CA, USA) The Cables to Go 40019 Optical to Coaxial Digital Audio Converter does exactly what it says it should and translates a 16-bit S/PDIF Optical Digital Audio signal to a coaxial transmision of the same value and does it at a reasonable price. it would be nice if it went in either direction but then it would undoubtedly cost more. Although the construction is a bit flimsy in the molded plastic, if treated carefully it should last a decent enough time, but if you are planning on taking it on the road I woudn't give it much of a lifespan.
Saved me $200+ in not having to buy a new receiver! June 26, 2010 Laurin Davis (Dallas, TX United States) Works perfectly! As soon as I fired it up and turned on a movie, I saw the DTS light on my Home Theater receiver and wow, does it sound great!
Excellent item June 24, 2010 Concerned One (Clarinda, IA) This works as advertised. Aimply pluged the optical toslink cable into my cablebox, coaxial digital on the out to my stereo, then plug the converter in, turn on the devices, and bam...I have 5.1 surround again on my stereo system without having to buy another optical splitter/combiner or a new stereo system to get surround sound. All my optical slots are full, but I have plenty of Coax inputs. A nice, affordable alternative to utilize the slots I have.
Waste of money: May 7, 2010 Vicky L. Emmons It was a waste of money as it didn't work at all. I had to end up buying a new surround sound system and now I'm out the money for this converter as well as the digital optical cable and the digital coaxial cable. My new tv has the digital optical out and my old surround sound system had digital coaxial in so everyone told me this was what I needed to be able to keep my old system as we really liked it as it was a multi disc player as well. But this didn't work at all you could hear it trying to work but I think it's defective it would make a humming noise every once in awhile but not produce any real sound. And yes I set my surround sound system to the digital in setting so it could receive the signal.
Great solution! May 3, 2010 Bank Of America Great solution for converting coaxil digital output to optical input. I can hear a blasting sound now to my tv from home theater system.
