5 out of 5 stars Adequate KVM switch, great price point   July 26, 2010
R. Whitaker (Utah)
My wife uses this switch daily. She uses her office laptop at home but doesn't have a docking station, so we use this switch to give her the big monitor and full-size keyboard.

For the price, my expectation was it would work for maybe a year and then we'd be shopping for another, more expensive model. Well it has now been 15 months and it's still going strong! My wife actually prefers to click the button on the unit rather than use the keyboard shortcut (double-tap CTRL key I think it is) and there is a slight delay before the mouse starts working. Overall, it's been a good purchase. If and when it does eventually fail, I'll probably just purchase this same model again.

2 out of 5 stars Does not work very well.   July 22, 2010

It simply doesn't work. The majority of the time I use it, windows will say "USB Device has malfunctioned". If I switch back and fourth enough times it eventually goes through, but it is incredibly annoying.

You should probably get a hardware switch, instead of a software switch like this.

4 out of 5 stars Bullseye!   July 20, 2010

After reading reviews on KVM+audio switches, I settled on this model, and I'm not sorry. The little beast hooked up with zero problems, allowing me to switch instantly between my Windows XP Pro desktop and dual-boot HP laptop running Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux. Zero problems installing, flawless performance. I'd give it five stars if not for the klutzy cable arrangement, and I would wish for a right-angle vga connector for the laptop end. Thanks, TRENDnet, and thanks to Amazon for free shipping!

5 out of 5 stars Simply works...   July 17, 2010
ScopeGuru (Chicago)
I have desktop PCs located both at home and at work. I bought this unit because I wanted to share my 15" MacBook Pro with the same monitors both when I am at home or at work. The KVM switch works as described: easy to set up, easy to switch between my Dell desktops and my MacBook. The entire set-up took no more than 5 min. I also plugged in a wireless mouse/keyboard that shared a single transmitter from Logitech, and the KVM switch just took care of it.

When I get to work, it took me 20 seconds to plug my MacBook to the KVM switch (with no rebooting). I can easily toggle between PC and Mac by pressing button 1 or button 2. When I go home, I repeat the same process for the KVM switch in my study.

The picture also is a bit misleading - in a good way. I was expecting something bigger, the actual KVM switch is only 3.5" in length.

If your PC uses a DVI output to hook up to your monitor, you will need a DVI to VGA converter. Specifically, DVI Male to VGA Female Adapter.

Simply put - this KVM thing simply works. I wish more products can be like this. No hassle whatsoever.

4 out of 5 stars Not Perfect, But Good Enough   July 13, 2010
C. G. Maupin (Seattlish)
I bought this switch when I started working from home about nine months ago. I run my keyboard and mouse through it so I can easily switch back and forth between computers. Both of monitors remain hooked up to their respective towers, so I can't comment on how well this switch works with a monitor.

The switch is a breeze to set up and even easier use. Just push a button and wait for the light to stop flashing. The only trouble I've run into so far is that occasionally one or both computers will fail to recognize the device. When this happens, I simply unplug the switch from both computers (from the back of the switch, not from the back of each computer), wait a moment, and then plug them back in. That fixes it every time. This isn't an especially common problem and it seems to happen more often when you switch back and forth between the computers quickly. I use my switch a LOT, probably 50-100 times a day, so others may not encounter this problem.

So while it's not a flawless device, it does seem to be a very good one.
