 An excellent mount for larger LCDs July 15, 2010

I ordered this because I wanted to be able to rotate my display 90 degrees into landscape mode. It mounted onto my wall and I had it installed in about 20 minutes. It took a few tries to figure out how to mount it, because I couldn't figure out which way is up. I suggest anyone who installs it mounts their monitor on it first, then place it on the wall and verify it swivels in the correct direction, then remove the monitor and mount. It is a very sturdy wall mount. I have it holding a fairly heavy 28" monitor and I have no concern about the mount coming loose or breaking. The construction of the arm is very sturdy and made of thick steel. Cables are mounted underneath the bottom of the arm. They're not completely hidden but they are out of the way.
The swivel function of the arm works great. You can tilt the monitor up and down 80°, pan 360°, and rotate 90°. The arm collapses onto itself fairly well so it is out of the way and the monitor can sit back about 3" away from the wall. Then when I want it closer, I just pull it out. It slides forward and backward very easily. The VESA mount on the back will accommodate any hole pattern you have with the included adapter. I initially balked at the price of this mount but it has proven to be well worth it.

was a bit nervous ordering this without seeing how it works in real life. but it works as advertised. you have to be careful when you swivel the thing. but you certainly can swivel it.
about the previous reviewer: i had the same problem. but then i tightened the screws at the top. i had to tighten for like 10 minutes. but that fixed everything. there is now enough tension in the springs such that my 26 inch screen goes up and down with ease (and stays up when i want it to).
one thing: the thing comes with different size vesa mounting thingamajiggies. being a bonehead i ordered a separate kit from ergotron. but i didn't need it.

Purchased this arm to mount a 24" iMac to the wall (note that this requires a VESA adapter plate from Apple, since the iMac does not natively have the right hole pattern to attach to a mounting arm like this). I was attracted to the arm because of favorable reviews of other Ergotron arms.
The arm's build quality is high. It has a solid feel and the machined metal has a classy appearance. The arm has integrated cable routing channels. Also, once the arm is mounted it is highly adjustable. It pivots left or right from 1) the wall mount, 2) the elbow, and 3) the head. The head also pivots up and down, and the elbow allows the monitor to be raised or lowered for a total of 5" of play.
My only ding on this arm is that, while it does have the capacity to carry the 24" iMac, the vertical adjustment at the elbow uses internal springs to maintain the monitor's position. The iMac turns out to be too heavy for the internal springs, so the monitor is, in effect, stuck in the lowest position. I didn't realize this when positioning the arm mount point on the wall, so it is a little low for my liking. This shortcoming is only applicable to very heavy monitors or all-in-one computers like the iMac.
