works fine July 26, 2010 Bryan Wait (Denver, CO.) Its pretty simple, it works fine, installs in a snap and is much cheaper than a new video card
Cool Gadget July 9, 2010 T.Jones Yeah it does what it is suppose to do, it doesnt have open gl support on mac but I can still view movies on the displays w/o any real visible lag or color change. Just make sure you use the latest drivers on mac. I had an issue with my screens flickering or not loading after my mac went to sleep but I updated the drivers an havent seen these issues since i did it. If you're thinking of buying one......buy it already!!
Does its job with no problems July 8, 2010 Sr. Atlanta (Atlanta, GA USA) Set up the Kensington adapter two months ago using two old Dell 17 inch monitors and it works like a charm. I now have a dual monitor set up! HIGHLY recommend dual monitor set up to all who are on computers often. It is a BIG time saver! Websites, videos etc run fine. Make sure you follow directions and use the enclosed CD! Set up took about 10 minutes.
Dual set up details:
computer: Lenovo T61 laptop (w/ Intel Core 2 Duo 2.10 Ghz CPU) w/ docking station
Monitors: both are Dell 17" LCD monitors (4 years old)
OS: Windows XP pro 2002 SP2 v. 5.1
RAM: was 2 GB, just updated to 4 GB (32 bit only sees 3 GB)
Stop thinking about it and just do it!!
Works well July 6, 2010 Greg K (Hertfordshire, UK) I used this for a week while I was working in the US. I'll use it at home too once I get a second external monitor. I used this with my Macbook Pro. I had to grab the latest displaylink drivers first but after installing those this device worked a treat. Simply plugged it in, gave it 30 secs on the first use and I had an external monitor to use. Not much more to report, performance is sufficient for web development, browsing etc. The only time I noticed a slow down was dragging video windows over to the external monitor running off this device. It was still acceptable but not quite as fluid as my MBP display. No regrets with this purchase, especially comparing the cost of this to alternatives (there aren't many alternatives for MBP owners). Good product.
Its very good. BUT things you should know... June 23, 2010 Kevin B When I ordered, I selected standard shipping via USPS 3-5 days. When order when through, estimated date of arrival jumped to 9-15 days. Arrived on the 8th day. USPS Tracking was not available till I'd received it, and then it was days behind.
The unit however is excellent. Instructions are ridiculously over-simplified--just 5 b&w sketches to illustrate what to do. But it's actually all that one needs. After installing the included software and then connecting it, the Kensington displayed only top half of the screen, and no cursor. A reboot fixed that, even though a reboot was not supposed to have been necessary. Perhaps it's my system. I'm running a desktop pc with WinxpPro and have a dual monitor GeForce Nvidia PCI-E card, with the Kensington running a third. I'd suspected that the Nvidia software or hardware might conflict with the unit, but so far so good after the one reboot.
It doesn't include a cable, but the included vga adapter was a very nice touch. I don't need it, as my monitor has a DVI input, but I did try it for the fun of it and it works.
Video quality is very, very nice on my Hanns-G 19'' lcd at 1280x1024 resolution (the max for this lcd). Video plays a little zaggy around edges of things on screen, but I don't plan to run any videos with it. Text is sharp, web images are sharp. The color output seems a little cold/blue; setting the lcd monitor to "warm" fixed it right up. (No color adjustment in software that I could find.)
Software is very simple. It puts a clickable icon into the taskbar (as would be expected from monitor-driving software), but also there are now 4 processes added to the task manager named "DisplayLink..." There's an option for automatic software updates that you can check or uncheck during install, and also change from the taskbar icon. Why it would need software updates, I don't know. Perhaps its just to identify future monitor models, and such.
